Grosmont Co-operative Society Limited is a consumer retail society serving the village of Grosmont in North Yorkshire. The Society was established in 1867, making it Britain's oldest independent co-op.
We stock a wide range of products most of which is sourced in Yorkshire, food and drink for walkers and snacks, groceries, wines and spirits for those who are staying longer.
The Co-op and Post Office occupies a buiding from around the middle of the 18th Century. It was formerly the Tunnel Inn and had stables for the horses that worked the early railway before the days of steam.
Based in Grosmont, North Yorkshire, until November 2014, we will be open every day, 12 till 5 weekdays and 11 till 5 at weekends.
We specialise in books on railways, buses, local maps & guides, local fiction and local arts and crafts, and have a good selection of books on art, motor racing, road transport, fiction, history, biographies, military, childrens and teens, plus many more.
We have pdf files listing some of the books we have available on the 'second hand PDF list' tab above, these lists contain both new and second hand titles.

Steaming Loco - The new shop on the block.
Our aim is to offer affordable quality goods in a friendly village shop environment. We stock an ever changing range of collectable vintage goods. Model railway items for enthusiast - including, engines, stock, buildings, track and more. Toys for all ages, gifts, souvenirs and our very own 'Handmade in Grosmont' range.

Grosmont Station Shop has a wide range of gifts and souvenirs. For the enthusiast we have our own range of DVDs as well as a wide selection of specialist books, DVDs and prints covering both steam and heritage diesel years.
Many visitors are looking for a souvenir of their visit and we also cater for them with a variety of nostalgic gifts and memorabilia, including fridge magnets and coasters, as well as our range of sweets evoking memories of childhood days.
For the children we stock a full range of the Thomas Wooden Railway and Early Engineers wooden models and gift sets, complimented by a range of Bigjigs models with which you can build your own name to form a train. All this, together with pocket money treasures.
The Geall Gallery and Artisan Cafe are to be found in the steam railway village of Grosmont nestled in the spectacular landscape of the North Yorkshire Moors national park some 6 miles outside of Whitby.
This relaxed and informal gallery is well worth a visit offering the delightful combination of great art and superb food. Well known for his panoramic palette knife paintings of the North Yorkshire Moors and coastline, Chris Geall works from the back of the gallery and is always happy to stop and have a chat.
The gallery also exhibits the work of a wide variety other local artists, such as David Utting, Ian Mitchell, Penny de Corte, Robert Brindley, John Egerton, Ailsa Nichilson and April Young.
As well as selling railwayana we always require signs, lamps, engine plates, railway books, videos, tapes, records, model railway items, Dinkies, Meccano, cars, buses, trucks, signalling equipment, railway pictures, posters, photographs, tickets, uniforms, caps, badges, railway cutlery and crockery
Donations of any railwayana welcomed and can be collected by arrangement.
